There were many complications during Alby's birth but only two were important: The first being that Alby was born a month early, the second being that his mother died in the process. This was the start to a very rocky childhood for Alby, his father resented him -- even as an infant -- for taking away his Belle and never forgave him. Alby was a sickly child and always a little too small to play with the other children his age, he was mostly raised by his older sister Lily and occasionally Mabel once she grew old enough.

As Alby grew up, he was constantly teased for his small size and his quiet personality. Some of the students even thought him to be a deaf/mute but his brother Henry would stick up for him the best he could. Alby looked up to his siblings for taking care of him when his father would not, he relied on them for support and love because he was sure to fail if he was left on his own. But as much as he loved them, he grew up in their shadows. He would never be athletic like Henry, or dance like Mabel, or paint like Lily could; he would be left with his books while they would probably go on to live extraordinary lives. His intelligence would never be enough for their father.

He lead an uneventful life, his father working as a travelling merchant while Lily kept the shop running. The years passed by and he watched as the testers came and went, his siblings never carrying magic in their veins. He quietly did the books for his father's business while Lily received all the praise -- It became their little secret, Alby was running Edmund's shop better than anyone else ever could have while Lily became the face their clients could trust.

Alby's nineteenth nameday came as a shock to the family, he had the potential to be a mage and he was almost immediately whisked away for the next term. Alby was terrified, he'd never had to be without his pillars of strength. If someone were to mock him, who would stand up for him? The idea of being without his siblings was scarier for him than the thought of training to become a mage.

Alby is quiet and withdrawn and rarely speaks without being spoken to first. He is polite and modest and will always be the first to back down in a dispute. Alby isn't known for being social or talkative and he tends to answer questions quickly and honestly to avoid further conversation. He doesn't do well in large crowds or noisy environments, if possible, he withdraws further into himself. When he's nervous or threatened he wraps his arms tightly around himself, like he's trying to hold himself together.

Alby has floppy pale blond hair that messily falls into his pale blue eyes. He's very thin and small for his age, his sisters always told him he looked delicate but he prefers to think he just looks boyish (really, he looks more delicate than boyish). He uses very small and half-hearted hand gestures but his eyes and face are incredibly expressive. His clothes typically fit him well -- even given his size -- and he tends to dress simply, slacks and a dress shirt and always neutral colors.
